Unfortunately, it has not been a good start to the year for our Huntly Bus students.
As you all know, you pay for your children to come to this college on the Huntly Buses provided by Taverners. Huntly is not within our local zone so all students coming here must make their own way. That is not our call. The bus service is a private service that is not connected in any way to the school or the MOE, and we are not permitted to assist in any way with the transportation of students from an area that has another college available.
It seems that the Taverners service has only 2 drivers available and last week one became ill, so they were repeating the runs. We were not communicated with about this until the very last minute last week when we contacted homes. Unfortunately, we were given no updates after that and expected that normal service would resume.
An update received Today from Taverners reads, One driver has broken a leg, and no replacement is available until March.
As the numbers of students on the buses fluctuate each day, Taverners will run the morning bus until it is full and then return for a second run. Students should wait at the stop as the bus will return to the point at which it became full. In the afternoon, the East side bus will leave school first and assess if a second run is needed. If you are located on the West side and have other options for transport available, then perhaps that would be a good idea. Otherwise, just be prepared to have a delay of 20 minutes or so in the afternoon. We will excuse the students for the lateness if they are registered to travel on the bus that must double back.
