Kia ora koutou
As we have been warned, sure enough Covid is spiking again in our region. To make matters worse, as winter takes hold, so do colds and flu. There are several nasty flu viruses circulating which can be just as debilitating as Covid and these are just as damaging to our ability to remain open as a full school. Our staff need to be well to teach and our students need to be well to learn, so whether it is a flu bug or the corona virus, when people have symptoms, they need to stay home, to get well themselves, and to avoid spreading the disease further.
We are now at the point at the college where we cannot remain fully open. Too many staff members and students are unwell, so we have decided to try a similar strategy as that tried by some other schools in the Waikato. We will close for 2 days at the end of this week, to try to break the current chain of transmission. Hopefully this will give some teachers and students a chance to recover and also disrupt the progress of the various illnesses through the school.
We will close to all students for Thursday and Friday with an aim to return fully to school on Monday. Online learning will be available for all.
Be assured that this is not something that we do lightly. Teachers prefer to be in front of all their classes if at all possible. Hopefully this will enable us to operate next week with as little disruption as possible.
We will keep you informed of developments daily. As before, if there is really no option to keep your child home, or with a friend, then there will be a bubble operating out of the library, but teachers will be working remotely.
